When searching for a photographer, take the time to look and compare quotes from local photography studios. You can go to your local portrait studio or simply do a quick search on the internet. More importantly get the details before signing any contracts. Ask if you can get the high resolution photographs (if they are included or if there is an additional charge). Also, ask how many pictures you get for the price, if there are any restrictions (i.e., number of people, poses, wardrobe changes, weekday Vs weekend charges, sitting fees, etc.) , if any charges for a creative session, and if there is a minimum purchase before you can get your pictures.

 Our recommendations:

MATERNITY:  Let us record the pregnancy and arrival of your newborn. We know you have too much on your mind and everything happens so fast that you would love to reminisce about those moments at a later time by looking at professional photographs from Studio-519. Allow us to create a story and share it with your family and friends wherever they are.  We offer photography services that can be scheduled in advance to capture the beauty of maternity, the arrival, the newborn phase (up until 2 weeks old), and the infant to toddler phase (anywhere from 6 months to a year). The pictures can be posted on a password protected website where we upload the pictures as they become available.  

First: Bring anything you feel comfortable in and love. Recommendations:

    • Pants, dress, robe, etc: black/white preferred.
    • Long skirts that will fit below the belly.
    • Shirts - white, button-down man's shirt
    • Tanks - anything fitted or stretchy in solid colors / sports bra  
    • Avoid patterns, stripes and plaids
    • Makeup: Light and natural
    • Manicure/Pedicure a day in advance
    • Jewelry:  Keep it simple.
    • Suggestions or other elements for photo shoot:
      • Sports: Favorite team flag, sports hat, etc
      • Wedding rings
      • Special memories of you and your husband
      • Baby clothing/shoes/bibs/first toy/Hat/Boots
      • Letters spelling your baby’s name
      • First ultrasound picture.
      • Flowers/Roses.
      • Lace wraps/Gift wrapping bows
      • Select 2 or 3 (max) favorite indoor rooms
        • Room needs to have natural light
      • Outdoor areas:
        • Garden / Background suggestions*:
          • Brick/Stone (rustic) wall / Gazebo / Fountains / Wheat/wild flowers field
          • Favorite downtown/urban/rural areas
          • Other: This photo shoot is all about you. Be creative and identify areas that you identify with.

*Some of these areas may require travel. Please arrange them with us as needed

 

NEWBORN:  This type of photo shoot usually takes approximately 2-3 hours and I strongly suggest to schedule your photo shoot within the first two weeks after your baby is born in order to capture the key posture details of your newborn. 

The on-location photo shoot will give you the comfort of having the photography session in a familiar and safe place of your choice.  It can take place in your living room or any open area of your house that has lots of natural light.  

Decide on a few favorite outfit choices for your baby. Don’t be afraid of patterns, colors, and even his/her sports team shirt or priceless bib. Newborns and babies are best photographed in nothing but their birthday suit. Here are some ideas of items/props to incorporate in your photo shoot. Since we do many newborn photo sessions, we do not provide any props in order to avoid any health issues.  

  • Solid White/Black shag rug (no patterns)

  • Rustic chair/bench/stool/basin/basket/briefcase

  • Black sheet (solid color)

  • Baby hat (any colors/design/patterns)

  • Mesh fabric

  • Fake flowers/roses

  • Wooden ruler –as big or bigger than your newborn.

  • Large wall calendar of the current year that your baby was born

  • Remember, keep it simple and try to also incorporate items with sentimental value. 

Make sure you and your spouse are also ready for the photo shoot. This means that you have had a manicure, make up (light), and hair styled and ready to show your best. Your wardrobe is also extremely important. Stay with solid neutral colors. It is perfectly fine if you would like to dress-up or if you simply would like to put something comfortable on.
